Sunday Sunday. Man we lucked out with the weather, it was perfect today.  We had a 0530 Wake Up and loaded up the killer wagon and headed to land nearest of where the Water is White. We rolled into the Kettle Morepain!! at an obscene time of 0645.

There wasn’t a soul in sight short of a yellow lab toting his pick em up truck driving yellow haired feller around. Dumped $45.00 into the DNR coffer and hooked up with “Bret the WEMS racer”. so it was Bret, Me and some vagabond that I found hitch-hiking with a bike frame and box of miscellaneous Internet parts.

The briefing that I got was that we’d latch on to a couple of riders and go out by 0700 at the latest and expect to be out for 2.5 hours. Well we left at 0715 but some how managed to not get back to the parking lot (which cost a days rent of $25.00) until 1030. Yup 3 hours 15 minutes later……… to the tune and over all cost of a $20.00 trail pass, two empty water bottles, 1 empty gel pack, 1 wrapper void of Cliff Bloks, a long sleeve heavy weight poly pro stuffed in a jersey, 2 spent ingested and used e-caps and my body minus 2,100 hundred plus calories that it woke up with in the morning. Not to mention a banged up shin from me spitting up a big ‘ol flat rock rock into my right shoe followed closely by my shin.

 The trail conditions were perfect. We hit up some new single track that was freshly cut (possibly the new white loop “rain day bypass”) out to the connector, around Emma Carlin, and then back. Good day, Legs felt good on the 32.16, lungs felt fresh, and the driving felt really good. No mishaps and I was happy with the exertion levels and the lines that I choose. Easily the best 26+ miles of the year. If you missed out, don’t miss the next one. Well worth the short drive and effort.

If you can name the not so proud owner of these 4 year old drawn-esk looking legs you’ll surely win a fabulous prize. And don’t be afraid of hurting his feelings. Any shame that he had left in him he easily left out at Kettles.
