Foiled

I guess that there’s been a bunch of stuff going on since the last post. Early on I’ve been hitting up the ‘new track’ out at Pets which is basically a 7 mile loop of unrepeated trail from beginning to end. Even Malibu made it out on the 7 mile loop.

Three laps is good for 2 hours worth of non-stop riding which will be a close estimate in time comparable to completing the Iceman this November. Maybe 2 hours and a little change, depending on the weather of course. The other good thing about the way this training course is set up is that you can really push yourself and race against your best laps. I haven’t been turning this track for very long but I did manage to pull of a PR for myself last week. 1st and second lap in the 36:40′s range with an average speed of 10.7 mph. I was well on course until I was climbing under some good power out of a section we call the ‘horseshoe’ and I hear a pop coming from the bike. The rear end was loosy goosy so I hobled it back to the car as best as I could and realize I managed to destroy the hub.

Here’s a picture of the carnage.

Yeah I know, not much carnage at all but broken non the less. I’m still sitting on these and should probably get them sent in to get repaired sooner than later. So I throw on some race hoops with low rolling Pythons and set em up for the single speed. I was amazed at the difference in effort that is needed to turn such a lighter wheel. I was brake checking and soft pedaling in areas that I never have before with the training wheels on there.

So enter last weekend. Not alot of riding in there at all. Mostly work from 8p til 4 a each day and up for soccer games in between and we even managed to score these for a Sunday afternoon. It’s too bad that they didn’t do much better than they did.

Monday comes around and it’s time to get out to run the 7 mile loop. I get just about done with the second lap and I stack it up after the ‘Deep V’. It didn’t feel like much of anything at the time but as I kept riding I started to feel a little pressure in my right rear hip. I worked that night and work up on Tuesday balled up pretty good and it’s been slow moving ever since. I’m guessing that it’s some form of sciatica. Forced rest at it’s best. Gotta run as I got an appointment with ‘Doc’. I might have to be a superfan for SheVegas, we’ll see. Wish me luck cause this sucks!!!
