I thought that after getting a full 4.8 hours of solid couch time sleep the night before that Wednesday night would be a good time to make the Wednesday Night Races at Crystal Ridge. On the nights agenda a race night double header.
There was a good sized crowd there and apparently Franklin didn’t get nearly the amount of rain that The Belle City got. Conditions were dry and dusty in the sun soaked areas and tacky to slightly greasy in the single track.
It was a able to bang into the lead group and dump into the woods in 4th. Soon after that the 3rd place dood dabbed and it was enough to let the leaders go. Stayed in place until we got onto “craters of the moon” which is a sustained rocky climb straight up the backside of the ski hill. There was a mudslide section that you had to navigate over and at the time it was quite a hump. I kept racing ‘over’ the hill but a faster guy was behind me and took me clean. I did an exact repeat of that scenario in the second lap and ended up finishing the race at I believe 6th overall.
The second race was a 1 lap for points race and I was content to just sit in, which I did. I’m going to have to keep these mid week races on the menu. It’s a good time, highly recommended.
