I’ve honed in a new circuit out at PETS. It basically involves three separate sections of singletrack all around the golf course and the bridal path which is seperated by Hwy A. I’m sure that out of the many groups of mountain bikers that are out in those woods there must be at least a thousand different names for each section. So I call the circuit 9 Ways, because your basically passing through the intersection of Hwy A and the Golf course in one direction or another at least 9 times and by the last few passes induces some pretty good conditions to work through.
The lap always starts at the bottom of ”Fence Line” and up the old Hwy A, burn through said intersection and down through Benito’s Loop and back up the gravel golf course hill. Definitely a punchy climb as I always seem to hit my Max HR for the day in this section. Follow the golf side bridal path through said intersection and head for and down the “New Hwy A” which seems to have some climbing for a down hill. Shorty says that the section reminds him of 9 Mile Forrest. Once at the bottom of Hwy A Climb back up via the Bridal Trail pass through the same Hwy A intersection and come down the old Hwy A and take the road back down to the beginning of “Fence Line”. Repeat 3x.
Each lap is good for 4 miles and somewhere around 23-24 minutes range. The Garmin says that the top of Hwy A is about 846 feet. So making 9 passes at it puts me in about the 1:15 which is good if you’ve got little time or even better if you wanted to blow out more time burning around the river for a little bit. 9 ways gets workable if you’re able to blow out every section (minus Fence Line) at least once in reverse. Both “Benito’s Loop” and the “New Hwy A” are leg burners for me when ran backwards.
So for the second day I hit up Hwy A 9 ways and then I blew some more funk out around the river for a bit. Finished up with a couple of hours worth and ear marked some spots on the trail where the brush is starting to need some trimming. Finished the night out with a nice evening loop around Pets chasing Shorty and HiMee.
Gotta busy day at work tomorrow so the riding plans are unknown. Saturday looks like a trip is in the works to make it out to Kettles. This time I’ll carry an 8 mm to make sure that this (blown-crank-arm.JPG) doesn’t happen again.
