8 cars….

The entire amount of cars that passed me on my 40 mile training ride this morning.  I started out at 5:52 a.m., 51 chilly degrees, winds N-NE 8 mph.  Long-sleeves, full finger gloves, knee warmers, toe caps ironically on August 30th!   Pushed by the wind for the first mile, turned west and was into the wind for the next 19.  Turned left past Bong hoping for a tailwind to help push me home, too fatigued to enjoy what Mother Nature was offering.  Realized then that I should have brought some carbs of some kind with me – would have really enjoyed them.  Stopped to water some local crops and unknowingly sunk in to some Kenosha muck and completely loaded my cleats to the point I couldn’t clip in.  On and off the bike three times before I found the right tool to help me scrape out the mud and clip back in for the ride home.  Trying to make up time, I ignored the danger of running over a busted up beer bottle – undoubtedly the work of some dumb new freshman at UW-P.  Flatted, a new tube, a blast of CO2 and I was back on the road home.  Under 2 hours, 40 miles, a quick shower and off to breakfast and church, cut grass, ate dinner, off to bed all to be repeated again next week.  Why do weekend days always go so much faster than the week days anyway?  Haven’t found the joy in MOAB training – yet.
